Training Opportunities

Alberta will continue to experience building trades labour shortages for many years to come. But the problem only begins with the labour shortages. We also have to bridge the resulting skills gap. We have to equip apprentices entering the workforce with knowledge and skills. And we have to ensure journeymen have ongoing opportunities to upgrade their training.

The Building Trades of Alberta and its affiliated union locals are prepared to answer those challenges. We take training seriously. We support great scholarship opportunities. We offer the best private training facilities in Alberta - bar none. In fact, many of our locals have invested heavily in new, state-of-the-art training facilities precisely in order to handle the increased demand as new building trades workers enter the marketplace and baby boomers retire.

Find out how you can benefit.

Training Centres Info

Across Canada, unions affiliated with the CBTU (Canada's Building Trades Unions) operate the nation's most advanced and most comprehensive training centres for tradespeople. The system features more than $650 million worth of training facilities. The scope of this training system is extended still further through agreements with community colleges and other independent trainers.

Canada's building trade unions provide almost 60 percent of all apprenticeship training in Canada. Think about what that can mean for your career!

The best news is that many of the best training centres are located right here in Alberta. You can benefit from these industry-leading training centres.
