Posted on June 29, 2015
North West Upgrading is currently building the first of three phases for the new Sturgeon Refinery, scheduled for completion in 2017. It will be the first refinery built in Canada in 30 years and the first to capture carbon dioxide during the refining process - nearly 4,000 tonnes every day.
Phase one of the refinery construction provides employment for 2,400 skilled labourers on-site, with another 1,000 welders and other workers in modular shops around Edmonton. By mid-2016, the on-site workforce is expected to climb to 5,000.
