Unions Give Back to Fort McMurray
Posted on June 24, 2015
The General Presidents' Maintenance Committee, made up of 13 international building trades unions focusing on industrial facilities maintenance work in the oil sands, has made a million-dollar commitment to the community of Fort McMurray and the community’s Northern Lights Health Foundation. This investment follows last year's donation of $400,000 which allowed the Foundation to fund components needed for a new spinal surgery program offered at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.
On June 24, the GPMC presented a cheque for $300,000 to the Northern Lights Health Foundation; the first of 2 installments of the remainder of their million dollar commitment. "Our ongoing commitment to the Northern Lights Health Foundation shows the determination of our members to give something back to a great community that has sheltered and sustained us in our work" GPMC Vice Chair Jack White stated, "We’ve received top-notch care and service from the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre and we’re pleased to help support its continuing work."
Foundation Executive Director Susanne Chaffey said "We are incredibly grateful to receive a $1 million commitment from the GPMC in support of health care in our region. Their support of the Health Foundation’s unrestricted fund allows our organization to respond to our region’s most critical health care needs, positively impacting countless patients receiving care in our community."
