About Local 17

The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 17 belongs to the 160,000 member International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. In Edmonton, Local 177 received its charter in 1993 as an amalgamation of three regional locals, two of which originated in the first decade of the twentieth century. Then, in 2015, District Council 17 was formed by the amalgamation of the Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba Locals.
