Path Forward

BTAโ€™s Path Forward aims to instill hope and a sense of belonging among Albertaโ€™s Indigenous youth. The truth is, for many Indigenous Albertans, desperation and despair are unfortunate realities and can lead folks down a dangerous path. Addictions, incarcerations, mental health issues, and suicides have plagued numerous Indigenous communities at disproportional rates, for far too long.

STAND UP for Safety

Stand Up for Safety is a new industry philosophy shared by the 18 building trade unions in Alberta. Our goal is to empower stakeholders at all levels from apprentices to business owners to have the freedom to talk openly about safety concerns on the job. On every job. Every single day. Watch the Stand Up for Safety video, which was shot entirely at Shell Scotford.

Social Procurement Agreements

Social Procurement Agreements put Alberta workers, families, and local communities first.

The members of the Building Trades of Alberta live right here in Alberta. We raise our families here. We pay taxes here. And we want to build infrastructure projects the right way; they become part of our province, and we want them to last. Thatโ€™s why we support Social Procurement Agreements.

Alberta was one of the first Chapters (Build Together โ€“ Women of the Alberta Building Trades) and has been operating since 2015, but our efforts to bring women into the building trades date back much further.

Building Trades of Alberta

The BTA proudly coordinates and promotes the interests of 18 Alberta local skilled trades unions

The North America's Building Trades Unions have officially endorsed Joe Biden in this year's US Presidential Election. NABTU President Sean McGarvey commended his administration's pro-labour policies and infrastructure investments which are creating jobs for Building Trades members. McGarvey also slammed Donald Trump for his endless broken promises made to skilled trades unions across the US.The BTA knows that working Albertans benefit from stability in the US. This helps our province maintain strong economic partnerships across the border which generates growth in our industry. Donald Trump has shown he has no interest in building stable economic relationships or creating good-paying union jobs. Instead, he is trying to throw the democracy of our country's closest ally into disarray for his own benefit. We as unions are democracies. Our members elect the leadership of their union through a fair and democratic process. This ensures that our leaders remain accountable to the workers they represent. As such, we recognize the dangers of politicians who deliberately undermine democracy. The BTA is proud to stand with NABTU and all of our fellow Building Trades unions across North America as we work to grow the unionized skilled trades. We support NABTU in this endorsement.#buildingtradesofalberta #skilledtrades #UnionStrong #uselections2024 ... See MoreSee Less

Last week, MLA Rhiannon Hoyle introduced Bill 207. We're glad to see legislators discusses the value that compulsory trades bring to our industry. This act would additionally guarantee funding for union apprenticeship training centres. We are eager to work with both parties in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta to grow our province's access to the industry-informed apprenticeship training offered by our affiliates. These include the Alberta Pipe Trades College, the Alberta Carpenters Training Centre, the Electrical Industry Training Centres Of Alberta and the Alberta Ironworkers Apprenticeship and Training Plan Local 720 to name just some.No one builds it like the Building Trades, and that includes building expert apprenticeship training for our province.#buildingtradesofalberta #ableg #skilledtrades #apprenticeships ...
