j’Amey currently works as the Director of Apprenticeship and Education for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 146, running the largest apprenticeship and education program for the Boilermakers in North America.

Naturally, here at the BTA, we are extremely pleased to see a member head up this important board. This is the first time in a long time (or perhaps ever) that a Union member has had the opportunity to sit in the Chair position on this board, which has been operating since just after the Second World War!

But the story is bigger than just that. Just like being the only woman to run Apprenticeship and Education for the Boilermakers, j’Amey is the only woman in history to hold the Chair position on the AIT Board. This landmark appointment highlights the progress that women are making in gaining employment, recognition and success in the trades.

According to Minister Schmidt in an interview with the Calgary Metro newspaper, “On her merit alone she stood head and shoulders above all other applicants”.
