Fort McMurray – The Building Trades of Alberta will donate $750,000 from its “Rebuild McMurray” Hope Fund on Friday to four organizations that continue to help the community recover from the devastating wildfire that ravaged the area in 2016.
Media are invited to attend the donations presentation at the Plumbers & Pipefitters UA Local 488 hall, 9703 Franklin Ave., tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Donation recipients:
- Local HERO Foundation – Phoenix Heli-Flight
- Wood Buffalo Food Bank
- Centre of Hope
- The Fort McMurray Salvation Army
“Even though it’s been more than three years since the wildfire, there is still need for assistance and support in the Fort McMurray community as it continues its recovery,” said Building Trades of Alberta Executive Director Terry Parker.
“The three to five years following a disaster can be some of the most difficult for community organizations and the individuals they serve. We’re hopeful donations from the Building Trades of Alberta “Rebuild McMurray” Hope Fund can help these organizations, whose work continues to make a difference in the lives of those in Fort McMurray, support folks who need it most.”
Contributions to the hope fund began in 2016 and include generous donations from building trades councils, unions and others nation-wide.
“Workers in the unionized building trades are committed to the communities they live and work in. We are thankful and very proud of the substantial donations we’ve received to this fund from around Canada,” said Parker.
The Building Trades of Alberta represents 14 Alberta skilled trades unions with more than 60,000 members across the province.
