Yesterday, Bill 67, the Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act, was tabled in the Alberta legislature by Advanced Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides, which upon approval, will replace the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act.
On April 20, Building Trades of Alberta Executive Director Terry Parker and staff will meet with Minister Nicolaides to discuss the bill and its impacts on skilled trades training and apprenticeships for building trades unions in the province.
BTA plans to discuss the ability for unions to indenture apprentices, apprenticeship agencies, union sponsors to apprenticeship contracts, union participation in the bill’s regulations and more.
Building Trades of Alberta continues to review the legislation, along with legal counsel, and will discuss Bill 67 further with BTA business managers next week. We will report back to membership with a brief on Bill 67 through managers shortly.
