EDMONTON, AB – The Building Trades of Alberta welcomes this morning’s announcement of a multi-billion-dollar plan by Air Products Canada LTD., to construct a net-zero blue hydrogen energy complex in the capital city.
“We’re very excited to see this complex announced today, supported by federal, provincial and municipal governments, which will see approximately 2,500 construction and engineering jobs and make Edmonton the hub of the nation’s blue hydrogen economy,” said Building Trades of Alberta Executive Director, Terry Parker.
“This is incredible news for jobs, the environment and the economy and BTA is proud to have put its name forward as a supporter of this project early on. We’re hopeful this clean energy project will act as a catalyst for economic recovery throughout the province, and Canada, and will showcase Alberta as a leading figure in energy diversification and environmental responsibility.
“BTA will be in touch with Air Products in the coming months to discuss how to best work together as we move toward the start of construction,” said Parker.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Canada and Air Products Canada LTD. will see the construction of the facility begin in 2022, with production of clean hydrogen by 2024.
The Building Trades of Alberta proudly represents more than 60,000 skilled trades professionals from 18 Alberta local unions, province wide.
