The Building Trades of Alberta (BTA) is proud to recognize the skilled union tradespeople currently working on the major shutdown turnaround at Borouge International’s Joffre site.
This important turnaround project is bringing together highly trained unionized construction and maintenance professionals from across Alberta to safely execute critical maintenance, repairs, inspections, and upgrades necessary to keep one of the province’s key industrial facilities operating efficiently and reliably.
The work underway at the Joffre site highlights the expertise and talent that Alberta’s unionized skilled trades workforce delivers on major industrial projects.
“The relationship between the Building Trades of Alberta and the leadership at the Joffre site has continued to grow stronger over the years,” said Terry Parker, Executive Director of the Building Trades of Alberta. “There has been a real commitment to collaboration, safety, workforce development, and ensuring these projects are completed by the best-trained tradespeople in the industry.”
Additionally, the Building Trades of Alberta Charitable Foundation has been welcomed on site to give union trades workers the chance to purchase 50/50 tickets during breaks. The proceeds of these sales will contribute to the foundation’s efforts to support charitable causes across Alberta.
Shutdown turnarounds are among the most complex and demanding industrial construction activities in Alberta’s energy and petrochemical sectors. They require extensive planning, coordination, and the ability to mobilize a large, highly skilled workforce on tight timelines while maintaining the highest safety standards.
The BTA also recognizes the strong working relationship built with site leadership at Borouge International’s Joffre operations. That partnership has helped create opportunities for unionized skilled trades workers while reinforcing the importance of union training, apprenticeship development, and maintaining a highly skilled local workforce.
Projects like the Joffre turnaround continue to demonstrate the critical role Alberta’s unionized skilled trades workers play in supporting the province’s industrial economy, maintaining critical infrastructure, and ensuring facilities can continue operating safely and competitively for years to come.
The Building Trades of Alberta thanks all workers involved in the turnaround for their commitment to safety, quality craftsmanship, and keeping Alberta’s industrial sector strong.
