BTA encourages Fort McMurray members and residents to participate in University of Alberta trauma study

The Building Trades of Alberta and the University of Alberta have teamed up to encourage folks from the Fort McMurray community to participate in an important mental health and wellness project titled, “The Fort McMurray Trauma Study,” led by the university’s Dr. Vincent Agyapong.

We all know the incredible distress the area has faced over the past few years, from the devastating wildfires, to the downtown floods and now with the COVID-19 pandemic.

This study aims to help better understand the mental health impacts of these traumatic events and to make recommendations to the Alberta Government and Alberta Health Services.

The FMMStrong supportive text message program

As part of the project, the research team is offering residents of Fort McMurray the opportunity to participate in an anonymous mental health and wellness survey, and to sign up for the FMMStrong supportive text message program; a free 12-month daily supportive text message program that aims to provide mental health support for residents experiencing stress, anxiety, depression and PTSD. We thank the University of Alberta for conducting this important study and those who choose to participate in it.

The Building Trades of Alberta strongly believes in supporting the communities we live and work in across the province.
