BTA gives $20,000 to Fort McMurray Santas Anonymous

Nov. 30, 2020

Fort McMurray, AB – Building Trades of Alberta (BTA) proudly contributed $20,000 to Father Mercredi School’s Santas Anonymous campaign last week in an effort to help make this Christmas a little brighter for those within the community.

“We’re pleased to provide this donation to Santas Anonymous on behalf of thousands of unionized skilled-trades professionals across Alberta, many who help build and maintain Fort McMurray, every day,” said BTA Executive Director Terry Parker.

“The state of Alberta’s economy, combined with the global pandemic, has been tough on many in our province. Those in Fort McMurray have been impacted particularly hard in recent years, both because of these reasons and devastating natural disasters. Helping communities we live and work in is paramount to the labour movement. We want to continue giving back both now, and in the future.

“We hope this donation will give families in Fort McMurray a very special and memorable Christmas, regardless of their financial ability to do so,” Parker said.

Santas Anonymous Director Jennifer Pope said “when we were informed we would receive $20,000 from Building Trades of Alberta, a very challenging time became a whole lot better and brighter. We cannot thank BTA enough for their support. This donation will help provide a Christmas to many children this year.”

“This extremely generous donation from Building Trades of Alberta means the absolute world to us. We are always grateful, of course, for the donations we receive, but this year it is appreciated even more so due to the challenges we have been facing with fundraising because of COVID-19,” said Pope.

The Building Trades of Alberta proudly represents more than 60,000 skilled-trades professionals from 18 Alberta local unions, province-wide.
