CALGARY – Building trades union locals from southern Alberta will donate $5,000 to the Wood Buffalo Food Bank to help the community continue its recovery from the devastating flood that hit the area last month.
United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 496, Ironworkers Local 725, Carpenters and Allied Workers Local 2103 and Sheet Metal Workers Local 8 will all give $1,250 respectively.
“Fort McMurray has provided BTA members in southern Alberta with good-paying jobs for years. For many of us, the area is a second home and we want to help out wherever we can to get the community back on its feet,” said Trevor Robertson, Business Manager for UA Local 496.
“I’m proud to see the southern building trades come together to give generously in these tougher times. Building Trades of Alberta affiliates believe strongly in giving back to the communities they live and work in, and we’re hopeful this additional help will assist Fort McMurray rebound as quickly as it can,” said Terry Parker, Building Trades of Alberta Executive Director.
To date, BTA and its affiliates have given thousands of pounds of goods and close to $30,000 to help the community in its flood recovery.
The Building Trades of Alberta proudly represents more than 60,000 skilled-trades workers from 18 union locals, province-wide.
