Building Trades of Alberta

The BTA proudly coordinates and promotes the interests of 18 Alberta local skilled trades unions

Today on the National Day of Mourning, we remember all those who never made it home from work. The Building Trades of Alberta joined Canada's Building Trades Unions for their Day of Mourning ceremony in Ottawa. Our Executive Director Terry Parker laid the wreath honouring all Albertan trades workers who lost their lives building our province. For us in the Building Trades of Alberta, this day is important for 2 reasons. First, it is an occasion to honour the trades workers taken from us far too soon. Second, it reminds us why we push to ensure that the safety of every worker in every trade is treated with the importance it deserves.โ€œThis last year in the Province of Alberta, we lost 161 people to workplace deaths, including those due to occupational disease and far too many workers were injured on the job. We had 37,000 lost-time injuries, which is unacceptable. Mourn the dead, fight for the living.โ€ โ€”Terry Parker#buildingtradesofalberta #DayOfMourning ... See MoreSee Less

The North America's Building Trades Unions have officially endorsed Joe Biden in this year's US Presidential Election. NABTU President Sean McGarvey commended his administration's pro-labour policies and infrastructure investments which are creating jobs for Building Trades members. McGarvey also slammed Donald Trump for his endless broken promises made to skilled trades unions across the US.The BTA knows that working Albertans benefit from stability in the US. This helps our province maintain strong economic partnerships across the border which generates growth in our industry. Donald Trump has shown he has no interest in building stable economic relationships or creating good-paying union jobs. Instead, he is trying to throw the democracy of our country's closest ally into disarray for his own benefit. We as unions are democracies. Our members elect the leadership of their union through a fair and democratic process. This ensures that our leaders remain accountable to the workers they represent. As such, we recognize the dangers of politicians who deliberately undermine democracy. The BTA is proud to stand with NABTU and all of our fellow Building Trades unions across North America as we work to grow the unionized skilled trades. We support NABTU in this endorsement.#buildingtradesofalberta #skilledtrades #UnionStrong #uselections2024 ... See MoreSee Less
