Adjustments to GPMC/NMC agreements

Today, Building Trades of Alberta business managers and staff attended a call with the General Presidents Maintenance Committee for Canada (GPMC)/National Maintenance Council for Canada (NMC) to discuss adjustments made to GPMC/NMC agreements by our contracting partners and the GPMC/NMC that will see concessions of approximately six per cent

The temporary adjustments take effect May 3, 2020 and expire Dec. 31, 2020. You can view the GPMC/NMC Letters of Understanding outlining the details of the changes here

BTA would also like to inform members that this is the start of further proposed cost-saving attempts by clients as a result of the unprecedented collapse in oil prices.

Transparency to members is key, and it must be disclosed that although BTA and its business managers had input and conversations with the GPMC/NMC on ways to work through this hard time with our contractor partners, the decision to agree to concessions was made by the general presidents and not BTA or its business managers.

BTA will continue to communicate and be transparent with members as things progress and we encourage members to reach out to their local unionwith any questions, comments or concerns they may have.

We thank you for your ongoing patience and resolve during these difficult times
