Today, the Building Trades of Alberta, along with business managers from several affiliate locals, met virtually with representatives from Shell and signatory contractor Worley Industrial regarding the future of long-term maintenance work at the Shell Scotford Complex in Fort Saskatchewan.
Shell informed us that its maintenance contract at Scotford with Worley Industrial will end, and as of Feb. 1, 2021, long-term maintenance work will go non-union with AECOM.
To say we’re disappointed with this sudden and unexpected move from Shell is an understatement.
The high quality maintenance work provided to Shell Scotford has been done safely and with pride over many years. It was made clear to us that this decision is about cost savings, and not the workmanship or productivity of our workforce.
Given the current state of the economy, coupled with the pandemic and Christmas just around the corner, this news from Shell will hit a number of members in the Fort Saskatchewan area and beyond, very hard.
